Governance

Karma is used to vote for proposals regulating the class

How can students use their karma? They can use it to govern the class, for instance. As in a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), stakeholders of the learning game are called upon to make decisions through proposals, discussions and voting.

Decisions, however, are made within a scaffolding decided in advance by the teacher, in a guided self-organization fashion. For instance, students can take part in the decision of the syllabus of the course, choosing among alternative topics. Or they can invite an external expert to give a lesson on a new topic of their interest.

Moreover, a student’s karma might also partially determine the final assessment given by the teacher to the student. The assessment can also be influenced by the karma-weighted evaluation of peer students. Hence peer evaluation and self evaluation are central in the learning game. This is another way students, and stakeholders in general, can participate in the governance of the class.
